Custom Lexus TX Lifted

Theres a First Time for Everything ... Like a Lifted Lexus TX

When a new vehicle comes out, especially a new platform and not just a facelift or re-design, there are some steps to take when accessorizing to see what’s possible. Often times we start by asking ourselves, Can it be done? Should it be done? And our approach to this Lexus TX was no different. A Lifted Lexus TX – did we just create a new breed of luxury 3 row family haulers?

Accessorizing a Lexus TX - What are our options?

When the new Lexus TX came out, along with it’s Toyota counterpart Grand Highlander, we wanted to see how we could accessorize it. The Grand Highlander was hard to get our hands on, and still is. The Toyota Grand Highlander sat in the top 10 for vehicles with the shortest days of supply. We were able to get our hands on our first Lexus TX last year, which we did a full Chrome Delete and 22″ Wheels on. For a while, we thought tint, vinyl, chrome delete and wheels were the only offerings we were going to have for these cars.

Lifting a Lexus TX ... What are the Options?

When we were first asked by one of our local dealer partners, Spirit Lexus, – “Can you Lift a TX” – the answer was yes and no. At the time, there was only one manufacturer of a lift kit for the TX or GH, which included strut spacers but no additional supporting parts. We didn’t feel like taking on the liability of a kit we didn’t feel was complete, so we kicked the can down the road.

As GX550 inventory dwindled, the Lexus Dealer really wanted to create something with some offroad flair that they could present their customers. They once again asked if we could do it, and this time – the answer was yes.

A company called Torq Engineering has since manufactured a kit that we felt was more complete and better engineered. We gave it a shot, and are thrilled with the results.

We completed the installation, installed our wheels and tires, and were left with a completely new TX.

Wheel and Tire Fitment, How Big of Tires can you fit?

When deciding what to do with Wheel and Tire, we didn’t want to push the envelope too far. We decided to stay with a 20″ wheel, as it comes from the factory that way. We did size up the tire though, from the factory 255/55r20 to a 275/55r20 Nitto Recon Grappler. This gave us about an inch more height overall. This size did require pushing the fender liner forward infront of the front tires.

Although we did stay with a factory wheel size, we did want something with a little more flair, so we opted for a set of 20″ Asanti Mogul 5 wheels, in the 5×120 bolt pattern to fit the car and a +27mm offset. We ended up with a perfectly “flush with fender” stance. A slightly higher +30 or +35 offset would fit just as nicely and open you up to a wider range of wheel choices.

Finishing Touches

The TX looked great with its new Lift Kit, Wheels and Offroad Tires, but wasn’t complete. We did a full chrome delete by removing and painting the badges, wrapping the window trim, and tinting the windows. We did add an offroad topographical decal, but removed it later as it didn’t really flow with the Lexus Luxury brand. All in all, a very cool Lexus TX!
